Whenever there is a Coronavirus report on TV, it’s almost always accompanied by a black and white picture of the virus as seen through a scanning electron microscope, or a colorized Coronavirus cell illustration created by the US government’s Centre for Disease Control.
TV news and other media started with the black and white SARS-CoV-2 image in January 2020.
Why do we even need to see what a coronavirus looks like? It’s not something we can spot and watch out for. You can’t see it on a surface or in the air.
It’s become a TV newscast tradition to show magnified pictures of viruses. The news has shown us microscope pictures of SARS, Ebola, and influenza, among others.
That magnified monochrome picture of COVID-19 used on TV and in other media may have made the virus scarier.
Now, Coronavirus needs a new image.
Here are some kind and gentle Coronavirus pictures that TV news could use with their reports.
COVID-19 Ballooning
Coronavirus Kittens
COVID-19 Bubble Bath
Coronavirus Sports and Leisure
COVID Bicycle Helmets
The experts say COVID-19 is going to be here forever.
If the media would update to a friendlier Coronavirus image the pandemic might not continue to be scary.
